Language Anxiety And Students Performance Among Grade Eleven Senior High School Students Of UM Panabo College
Abstract
The aim of this study is to determine the effect of language anxiety in students’ performance among grade eleven senior high school students of UM Panabo College. The researcher adopt and utilized the research questionnaire from Horwitz et al., to allow the collection of reliable and desired information. The questionnaire consist of 10 questions. The result of language anxiety is 2.67 with the P – value of 0.00 and the result of students performance is 35.96 which is lower than 0.05. Thus, it was found out that there is significant relationship between Language anxiety and students performance of grade eleven senior high school students of UM Panabo College. With this, it explain that the language anxiety of the learner affect so much there academic performances. Therefore, students who are anxious about grammatical mistake should be motivated to practice their speaking skills using the second language which helps them to enhance their learning and ability in speaking. They should believe that they a can achieved by boosting their self-esteem in speaking the second language. The language teacher should help anxious learners in giving them more opportunity to practice positive self – talk, reducing competition and catering students of learning the second language. Students need to participate in classroom activities because it helps them overcome the anxiety they feel in communicating with their classmate as well as their teacher.
