Master of science in social work program : a tracer study
Abstract
Compassionate leaders and competitive Social Work professionals are the
products of the University of Mindanao Professional Schools. This study utilized
qualitative-descriptive method to describe the employability characteristics of the
twelve (12)respondents. Most of them occupied supervisory positions at the local,
national, and international levels. Leadership and public relations highlighted the
result of the skills acquired, while the least skills they developed are technology based and instructional skills. Some of the reasons that prompt them to stay long in
their workplace are the attractive salary, fringe benefits and career challenges,
however; career challenges on the downside are some of the reasons of their career
shift. Philippine Association of Social Work Incorporated and National Association of
Social Work Educators Inc. are highlighted on the graduates’ organizational
involvement while, self-confidence and strong work ethics are the highest values
developed all throughout their life in the field of social work practice. Secondly,
honesty and integrity, professionalism dependability and self-motivation were
developed as these were enshrined in the program educational objectives, as well as
in the vision, mission and goals of the University of Mindanao. Furthermore to
achieve best results, the program proposed an Action Plan which can be utilized to
address weak areas of the Social Workers based on findings.
